Creativity Websites
Weebly for Students Your personal websites are located here. Make sure you have your username and password.
Google Drive Everyone has a Google Drive account. Your username and password are in your Student Planner.
We are learning how to code! Go to The Hour of Code 2014 website and go through the tutorials to learn how and why we code. How many hours can you code? Have fun!
Libraries
East Lansing Public Library, Capital Area District Libraries, or Whitehills Library Visit these sites to get information about their summer reading programs, to see dates and times for special events, or to download ebooks.
Search Engines
Ask Kids A kid-friendly search engine that will give websites and pictures that are appropriate for kids' eyes.
MeL Kids databases provide reliable, age appropriate resources that inform and stimulate the mind. And they’re fun too! I recommend Kids InfoBits to do research. Look at their recommended Web sites for quality information from the Internet. You will need your parent's driver's license number or a public library card number to access the site.
Typing
ABCya! Keyboarding Practice A fun game to learn where the letters are located on the keyboard.
Keybr A simple site that shows you how many words per minute and errors you can type. Can you beat your time?
Math Games
Timez Attack A free computer game download that teaches times tables. It's designed and built by "real" computer game designers. Awesome way to learn and practice times tables!
Moby Max Practice your math facts online after completing the quiz to find out where you need to start. |
Math Magician Game Practice your addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts within sets.
IXL Math Practice Click on 4th grade. You will see many different categories with practice problems. I would suggest that everyone try the fractions.
Arcademic Skill Builders Research-based and standards-aligned math games that help with fact retention.
Fun Brain There are many reading and math games to play including Sudoku, Math Baseball, and a variety of arcade games.
Times Table Games A multitude of games to learn multiplication. If you click on the links to the left, you can also play counting, time, fraction, and adding games.
Reading / Vocabulary
Tumblebooks An online collection of animated, talking picture and chapter books that teach young children the joys of reading in a format they'll love. Contact Mrs. Wever for the username and password.
Storyline Online Actors read aloud animated children's books.
Slime Kids A great website to get kids excited about reading books. There are book trailers, book reviews, games, and many other resources to help children choose books.
Time for Kids A popular kids magazine's website filled with articles, activities, and games for reading, science, social studies, and math.
Free Rice A site that helps you learn vocabulary words. For each correct answer, they donate 10 grains of rice through the World Food Programme to help end hunger.
Fun Brain If you love Mad Libs, check out this website! Read Diary of a Wimpy Kid and other popular books too. There are also many reading and math games to play.
Kidthing A free, interactive website that you must download to your computer to use. You can play the free games or download additional games for a fee.
Spelling
Spelling City A great website where you can type in your own spelling words. The site will teach the words to you, test you, and allow you to play games with your words.
ELPS Spelling Program Practice your spelling words using the Sitton Spelling Program. The program emphasizes correct spelling in everyday writing, not just for an end-of-the-week test.
Writing
Bitstrips for Schools Check out our online comics! We created our own Avitars and use them in our stories. Our code is redcedar.
Social Studies
50States.com Facts on all the states. A huge, in-depth resource.
Geography Wiki dedicated to teaching the students of Red Cedar the geography of the U.S.
Science
BBC Science Explore a variety of activities on living things, materials and physical processes. Play the game, revise, and then do the quiz!
Study Jams Website by Scholastic with many Science and Math videos, songs, and interactive games.
PhET Simulations has many science simulations your child can do at home, including circuits!
Miscellaneous Websites
Kerpoof A good site for elementary students (that's owned by the Disney Company). Students can create original artwork, animated movies, stories, greeting cards and more.
Prezi If you are bored of using PowerPoint, you can jazz up your presentations by using Prezi. Check it out!
ScuttlePad Get introduced to Social Networking by creating a ScuttlePad account. It's similar to FaceBook, except it is completely monitored and filtered. Children from 6-11 can create a free account.
Oddcast Make characters by uploading a picture, changing the face, and typing in what you want him/her to say.
Word It Out An attractive arrangement of randomly positioned words in Word Clouds, where the most important words are bigger than the others. Very similar to Wordle.
Yahoo Kids There are many interactive games, projects, and resources related to math, science, and language arts.
Ancient Greek Gods Use this website to get background information on the characters in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
Winged Sandals Information on the Oracle to help with background knowledge when reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
